When you think if gas stations do you think of me?

Issue 13

’I’m not here for second place. I’m here to plant my flag square in the ground as an authority on the industry. When you think Gas Stations I want you to think of me. Have you noticed that when there’s a gas station related post this account is tagged? Happens so much it’s almost a nuisance but I love it! None of you even knew who I was 14 months ago. I didn’t exist. Now here we are with. a larger following than every industry magazine COMBINED! Every single time one of you stops to fuel up, you think of me. You think of the posts about cleanliness, speed of the pump, access and then think of the old GBG.

Now it’s your turn.

Today we are going off the three points I’ve used time and again to be successful, not only in business but social media. Give me 60 seconds and see if it clicks for you.

1) Who are you?

Listen. At the end of the day very few people want to see you succeed. It’s perfectly fine to be quirky and ‘different’. In fact it plays to your favor. You’ll stand out and people will appreciate your authenticity. Watch my latest Youtube video Gas Biz Guy - YouTube and you’ll see me throw on that Exxon mechanic shirt like it’s a three piece suit. And you know what? Y’all love it. You know it’s me and you can sense it. Same with your customers and employees, they want real. Just be you.

2) Building a culture

You love what you do. You become infectious, you’re excited and your enthusiasm rubs off on everyone you come in contact with. Your customers know you’re not doing this for not for money but for personal reasons. Your employees feel the same, when somethings not right, you’re alerted or they alert one another. They take pride in the organization because it matters and THIS is the magic. I’m not going to call out specific companies in my industry but there are clear leaders like WAWA and QuickTrip that nail it. Then you have the other big time marketers who try but the culture is missing, they’ll never be as great until they fix this.

Speaking of culture. Did you realize we’ve built an account full of fans, not followers and I thank you all for it, it’s very exciting.

3) It’s not about you

It’s all about your customer and your team. Great businesses are the ones built to serve their customers, community and staff. Bad companies are built by being focused on the bottom line for investors.

Now if you get a minute and want to see me breaking down the latest update on the GBG 911 series subscribe to the YouTube channel. Keep in mind I have no idea what I’m doing but I love it.

Let’s do it again next week!
